When we originally penned the script for this comic over a year ago there wasn't such a substantial height difference between Rikku and Umi. It was more intended that Umi had taken on a more human scale and hence the weapon having notably more kick, but given continuity between Seek comics we forgot to edit that bit.

8mm ammo on the other hand is a common calibre on the twin's world of Corthux, along with the lighter 6.5mm ammo. Weapons are also primarily caseless in this era, hence no shell ejection. And there are also a fair number of energy based weapons, though bullets and lasers make up the majority of mainline firearms.
