> Try to talk
Blindly fighting isn't going to work right now, and retreat is risky. If you can get it talking, then you will at least have an idea of where it is. You might even be able to get a look at what you're against.
"If you're not a feral, then come out and say something!" You call out. "We don't have to fight, so let's just talk this out!"
There's a long pause before a voice finally replies. "Is that so? Then why don't you just leave." The echos of the cavern make it difficult to pinpoint where the voice is coming from. You think for a few moments, but you realize that you still can't just abandon your mission like this. Besides, if you can just keep her talking, then Tahtsu will have more time to clear her head.
"You know we can't do that. Why are you even here?" You call out again. "You're just going to have to deal with the owners of this place sending stronger forces down here to get you out. You should leave while you still can."
"The 'owners' of this place, you say? Hmph." The voice is close this time. Turning around, you are able to see the source through a large opening above you. Looks like you were right. An Arachne woman in tattered robes stands there, glaring at you. "This place belongs to me, not them. They've been trying to steal it for years. I thought they had given up until recently. Well, if they want to send fools to their deaths, then so be it."
"Wait... What are you talking about?" Tahtsu speaks up from behind you. "Are you... saying that you own this place?"
"Something tells me you don't exactly have the paperwork to back that up." You look up at the woman. "So what do you mean?"
"Paperwork?" The spider woman frowns. "Paper doesn't determine who owns what. I've defended this place for years. The one who can do that is the one who truly owns it. But..." She pauses for a moment, thinking. "What you said is true. Stronger forces will come. Perhaps it is time to move on." She looks down at both of you. "However, I still do not appreciate this trespass. We both know I hold the advantage here. If I desired, neither of you would make it out of here." You frown at that. Unfortunately, she might be right. "But I'm feeling... nice at the moment. I'll let one of you go. The other one stays here."
"Wh-what are you planning on doing..?" Tahtsu speaks up, obviously concerned.
"Hm... Not really sure, to be honest." The woman gives a smirk. "I'm afraid I just ate, so I'm a bit full for now. I'm sure I could find... other uses for them though. Heheh..." The woman moves back a little ways into the passage, hiding herself away. "Oh, and no heroics. You should toss those weapons of yours into the river over there. Any hint that you still plan to fight or flee, and I'll be sure to take both of you."
With that, the woman disappears from sight, but you know that she's still watching you.
"What do we do now? Urgh... we should have just left earlier..." Tahtsu seems upset about all this. But she does have a point. You have a decision to make now. You could take the Arachne's deal, or try your luck escaping. You could still try to fight, but you're at a heavy disadvantage. The room is still lit fairly well, but the fires are starting to fade.

RUN AWAY
Posted by lordamaterasu03 8 years ago Report
>W> I'm unsure how to proceed. if it's anything I think we should take the fall and let our companion escape since she didn't want to do this it seems so I think that be the best choice.
plus I think she be happier with a guy then a girl. (maybe?)
Posted by YesImCanadian 8 years ago Report
I agree.
We should try to convince her to let us lead Tahtsu to at least a safer area of the mine. Possibly even grab the valuables for her.
If she doesn't trust us, then she can follow so that she can keep an eye on us.

stay yourself and let Tahtsu escape
Posted by thatonedude236 8 years ago Report
Welp, the safest answer is to sacrifice yourself to the Arachne. Tahtsu was the one insisting we get out of dodge and we're only in this mess because we didn't listen.
There's a chance we could save our respective hides by fleeing...but we might die and/or lose Tahtsu in the bargain.
Fighting...won't end well, methinks.

Lets let the elf girl leave. Stay... and have I dunno, sexy times with the spider? Who knows.
WE WILL BE NAMED KING OF THE SPIDER PEOPLE! *dramatic 1930's sci-fi music*

Stay and let Tahtsu escape~

After some thought, this should be the Evil play-through. (Floria continues to be the herald of the Good game.)
Push Tahtsu into some webs while she's still dizzy, then take her equipment (if possible).
Sorry Toots, er.. Tahtsu. ^_^

We stay, Tahtsu can leave, we try to reason with the spider woman. After all she seems reasonable enough for the moment.

This Arachne has me wondering, could she be powerful enough to cure ailments like what Myla has?

O/w/O!!! I'd say the guy though actually, I mean it was our idea to break the wall down
Posted by TotallyRandom 8 years ago Report
We could take the Floria approach, offering her to join our party, but this would be boring. So we either sacrifice Tahtsu or fight.
Also all elves should be noms.
Posted by paltiel 8 years ago Report
Agreed. Elves exist solely to be eaten.
Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report
Perhaps one could entertain the drider maiden long enough to exhaust her, though this would require a rediculous amount of stamina and vigor.
Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report
Sigh... if only I could intervine more directly... we either fight now and hope for the best or perhaps find a rather risky strategy. I would offer myself to let another leave, then hopefully my comrade will return with reinforcements in time. Perhaps one could contact mylady somehow and then form a raid into the drider's domain. Perhaps whomever stays behind can strike another deal of some sorts.
May steel line thy path

One stays and the other goes? Those are the kind of terms that really piss me off.
Seems like she has a case for defending this place. I would take her side if she hadn't offered us terms that were an obvious trap.
I would have recommended shooting her in the head the moment she gave us those terms, but it seems that's not an option.
In case it isn't obvious, I will try to explain why these terms are terrible. Leaving aside the moral problem with leaving ones companion behind, all these terms do is put us at a disadvantage. If we split up we will be incredibly easy to deal with; and once one of us has left, the spider has no reason not to bind the one she has and then pursue the other. Dropping our weapons will also remove any incentive she has to honor her agreements.
We took some hits from her already, so she has demonstrated that she can't kill us quickly. Fighting our way out is not nearly as far fetched as she would like us to believe. Not to say we necessarily should, but the mere fact that we can means we can demand better terms.
Here's my recommendation:
Tell her there is no way we can accept those terms, listing the reasons if necessary. Tell her to let us leave, and we will get the owner of the mines to stop harassing her; or perhaps bring him to the negotiating table.
If she says that we have to accept her terms because she has every advantage in here, remind her that Tahtsu already hit her once and can do so again. Tell her that the next bolt might hit something vital, might make her lose her grip, and if she ends up on the ground victory will go to the person with the biggest teeth(while brandishing our sword in a way that implies it will serve as our teeth).
If she insists on her terms and happens to reveal herself, shoot her. If she pushes her terms and remains careful, we should move with a fighting retreat.
Keep Tahtsu close while we are negotiating and be prepared for a surprise attack. keep her at our back so we can watch the whole room between the two of us.
We should find and make mental note of all the openings the spider uses. If this fight continues we should at least no where she can show up. The might be places in the cavern where only one or two openings would allow her to attack us, and if we find such place counter attacking her will be easier.

Of course it is a trap. It's always a trap with Rayen.
Posted by YesImCanadian 8 years ago Report
Yup. I kind of figured that.
Like I said in another post, I don't think these 2 are going to be leaving this cave. Maybe if they're lucky, one of them will escape, but chances are slim. We need to get a really good role.
Posted by DeafeningWhisper 8 years ago Report
Making decisions based solely on self preservation makes for a terrible story anyway. We should embrace the possibility that these guys won't be around long and base our decisions solely on what makes the best story.
That being said, they aren't dead yet. And this spider can bleed, so it can be beaten.
Posted by Shortpig 8 years ago Report
What if it just bleeds more spiders though?
Posted by DeafeningWhisper 8 years ago Report
that is a scenario mortal men were not made to handle
Posted by The_Prof 8 years ago Report
Be the noble hero and let Tahtsu escape.
... Or you could come up with a plan with the Arachne to scare the miners from entering entirely.
Posted by forgreatjustice18 8 years ago Report
Sacrifice self, let Tahtsu leave
Posted by Thagrahn 8 years ago Report
Have Tahtsu tose her weapon and leave, keep talking with the spider lady, and when Tahtsu has enough of a lead just drop our weapon.
If we do this right, we can add Tahtsu to the main party.
Posted by paltiel 8 years ago Report
Begging forgiveness for agreeing in principle, but not fully agreeing, if only 'cause I'd prefer adding the Arachne to the main party. ^_^;
But, of the two Elves, Tahtsu is the better. She has low light vision, quicker reflexes, greater 'awareness', and good crossbow skills.
Nev's just more of a heavier-armored, inferior Myla.
Both would be great... but I'm not sure if Arachne + Tahtsu would be entirely compatible? Tahtsu did kinda shoot her... ^^;
Posted by YesImCanadian 8 years ago Report
The shot was more out of reflex than out hate.
I'm not entirely fond of Tahtsu. I'd rather have the arachnid if we had to choose.
If we did have the chance to get both of them (and Nev was no longer around for one reason or another), I don't think they would get along.
Posted by paltiel 8 years ago Report
Mmnm, yes now that you mention it.
Arachne seems the sort who'd harmlessly troll her friends, while Tahtsu doesn't seem thick skinned enough to take it. Garrett and Bluebell could handle it. Jates is a whipping cushion who gets no say in the matter. ~_^
Tho... mixing Myla and Arachne might cause fireworks ...until Floria tells both girls to knock it off or tone it down. ^_^

Communicate further, settle for a potential compromise... Perhaps set up a 'deal' with the local townsfolk.
Posted by Razgriz 8 years ago Report
> Refuse to sacrifice your friend. It's either you or nobody! So uh. Escape I guess since you don't want to die either?
Posted by MontyMiyagi2513 8 years ago Report
Volunteer to stay and let Tahtsu go free
Posted by nullstuff 8 years ago Report
I'd say take the fall. We're on the spider lass's home turf, which she's obviously lived in for a long time, so escaping probably won't end well. Best case, she's impressed with our bravery and we can strike up some kind of deal, maybe help her find a new home. Worst case... Well, there's worse ways to exist than to be a spider-toy.
Posted by RavenXeo 8 years ago Report
Lets just leave. Its a shitty 'deal' and she wants us to leave? Well then she should just LET us leave.. if she forces one of us to stay then the other could come back for revenge with a more powerful group. let us both leave and she'll never see us again. Seems a far better deal.
Posted by nbe21 8 years ago Report
i'll say give yourself up but at least keep your weapons to cover Tahtsu's escape. Then give yourself to sexy spider lady.
Posted by nbe21 8 years ago Report
Especially since we did kinda pressure her into gonig on deeper into the cave and into the trap.
Posted by Cococado 8 years ago Report
I'm gonna go out on a metaphorical limb and assume neither of the two elves are smart enough to carry a hidden dagger FOR THIS. EXACT. SCENARIO.
Posted by Kartomic 8 years ago Report
Offer to stay, but insist that you be allowed to lead your companion to safety.
Posted by RumiBelly 8 years ago Report
jump into the river. If the arachne uses it as a sort of disposal then it must exit somewhere. and worst case, if it doesn't lead out, then there will be gear from whoever was here before, we may find something useful.
Posted by MolenarVincaros 8 years ago Report
pass everything to the companion and ask the drider if it would be okay for her to take the belongings rather than toss valuables into the river, have her leave and stay ourselves. Seems there shouldn't be an issue of being eaten anyway, so, stick around, appease the drider, and see if there is a way to make things work out. I Would say first things are introductions and asking her name though. lets be friendly if possible.

Hmm I declare more Niles to be necessary for inhabiting the cavern ... Time for the guy to stay and commence good old reproduction!

Whisper to Tahtsu to leave, but to stay just outside the room and to come back when you give the word, then stay and see if you can lure the nope closer. We may have to abandon our sword, but we might be able to keep our torch. If she gets close enough we can attack with that and get Tahtsu to return and with support.
Posted by DeityV 8 years ago Report
Yeah let's get out of there. Probably flash bang if it comes down to it.
Posted by davidargall 8 years ago Report
run away may be wiser, but we end up broke at best that way. So we take the deal and hope.
Weapons are valuable. suggest that they just be left here rather than be ruined in water. That way, Miss spider gets some good out of them. The elves purchase them back at discount or trade for food or...
Tahtsu gets to escape. Not necessarily the better. She may well be better suited for survival down here. But she can carry the message well enough and this may need leadership.
try to make a deal with Madame Spider. we pay you to go away, or to not eat any of the workers, or maybe to protect the workers, or assist them. There may be other monsters down here, and/or she may know where the good ore is, or...] There are several possibilities. so we explore those ways and try to find a deal.

Since she is talking, we can bargain right now. See if there is any sort of deal we can make. Maybe a supply of food if she ignores the miners. Or maybe she can help them and share in the profits. or...
Anyway, we may be able to cut a deal and get out without losses, and maybe get paid.
