Both, she not only can't afford much but doesn't both with buying furniture when she'll probably eat it eventually. (She gets her mattresses whenever other people throw out theirs)

It's ironic she chose a turtle as a pet. Since when frightened, Eve has to hide her body, but a turtle hides in his body. That might actually be irony, but a point nonetheless.
What if Adam the turtle is actually Eve’s prom date reincarnated and this is his way of showing A(He still loves her even after she ate him and B(he has a thing for girls with big bellies.
Am I overthinking things here, or could I be right?
