How to Play: Read the comic and then choose in the strawpoll link below what Tanya should do next.

Make sure to pay attention to Tanya's Stats. Charm determines how easily Tanya can sway others and cause them to do her bidding through seduction or other means. Stomach shows how hungry she is. If her meter gets too low, the quest may be railroaded, or Tanya doing something opposite of what the majority of people voted for. Vigor is vital for Tanya to do certain tasks that may require more effort than normal. Vigor can be seen as a combination of energy and mood.

There are also Current Sounds to keep in mind. Tanya is a rabbit with large ears! This means she uses her hearing almost constantly to remain aware of her surroundings. Current sounds can give a hint as to whether you should be careful in a specific situation or can do activities freely.

I'm looking for a lot of participation with this quest, so please chip in! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Actually, there's a third option. Let Java know he's behind her. Though, we still don't know the whole story. She could be lying, but Jabaro is suddenly NOT freaking out now that he's got a sneak attack. So she MIGHT be telling the truth.

Warn Java about Jabaro. The story we've been given by Jabaro doesn't fully add up, and Java clearly hasn't eaten the villagers. In addition, she hasn't killed or eaten our 'rival', or us, so she's not openly hostile in that sense

We need to warn Java, and possibly take Jabaro alive.

There's now a lot of holes in his story and a few actions like not immediately telling that Tanya ate us to wanting our sword now seem shady as all hell.

That and Java would've and should've killed both Kuva and Tanya won't no hesitation. She could've easily open Tanya's eyes too won't trying.

I dislike being misled but I have more faith in the cheetah then the Snake. And if the weapons were for the snake to begin with it would make more sense to involve it in there story somehow. It seemed to much of a suprise to jabaro.

Keep ourselves quiet and trust our ally.

SirScotty

"He's right behind you."

Jabaro has clearly lied to us, while Java has done no such thing. Additionally, Kuva (successfully) ate us. Neither of them have demonstrated trustworthiness. Furthermore, clearly the lost cheetah child is not here.

We're not here to do Jabaro's dirty work for him.

When we left Jabaro, he was shivering like a frightened kitten. Now he's sneaking up, dead calm and laser focus? Nobody overcomes fear like that. He should be trembling, looking frightened if he was really scared of her. That was an act, to allow us to be used as a distraction against Java.

I think we shpuld keep Java talking and let Jabaro attempt whatever his plan is. So far Java has only given accusations while Jabaro has given one concrete truth, that Java can control people with her eyes.

mayeram

Posted by mayeram 8 years ago Report

It seems obvious that there are really only two choices here. Either warn Java or remain silent/ continue to distract Java to help Jabaro kill her.

I strongly favor warning Java. It is possible that Java is intelligent enough to piece everything together and fabricate a lie to turn Tanya against Jabaro in a split second just by hearing Jabaro's name once from Tanya, but it would be very unlikely. Java also would not need to fabricate such a lie. If she were really the monster that ate an entire village she would just kill or eat Tanya and then deal with Jabaro alone and without distractions.

Too many pieces are now clicking into place in Java's favor, and to top it off Jabaro is now sneaking up behind Java like a professional assassin right after he seemed immobilized with terror and doubt.

If I were Java, I would forgive someone who wounded me if they saved my life once they realized that they were mistaken.

Jabaro has clearly used both Tanya and Kuva as bait. Someone that would do that is not and could never be an ally. For all we know, we would become his next target once our value as bait no longer existed.

2quick4u

Posted by 2quick4u 8 years ago Report

Side with Java. Attempt diplomacy. Bind/disable Jab

justanothermeal

Posted by justanothermeal 8 years ago Report

she is probably already hypnotizing you, either this jabarro is an illusion, or she is telling the truth, or he is a skilled assassin who is targeting the snake currently threatening your life, and is at the moment non hostile to you, either way it would be foolish to turn on him. let him have his way with her. if true he is a skilled assassin who you dont want to fight unprepared, and if it is an illusion, she is probably trying to trick you into killing your friend, and becoming her slave

nyanyan

Posted by nyanyan 8 years ago Report

2 things.

1) We probably aren't hypnotized yet. We had our eyes shut the ENTIRE time we were forced to look in her direction. During the fight the most we looked at was her tail. Of course the mist could have been something. But it could also have been Jabaro lowering visibility if he is, in fact, an assassin.

2) If Jabaro is an assassin, we just learned about him. Most assassins kill off any loose ends and/or witnesses. He'd likely turn on us.

Kasra

Posted by Kasra 8 years ago Report

So others have essentially laid out the possibilities...distract Java, alert Java, or attempt to broker peace which could end up merely alerting Java.

On the one hand, we have already formed a rapport with Jabaro. On the other, Java knows him by name, has met the assassin "one too many times," and Jabaro himself implied that they had crossed paths only informally by telling us he watched her consume a group (back on page 30) which implies that we've been lied to or at least misled.

But going back to page 18, I am reminded that Jabaro is not actually related to Kuva and was merely a vagabond that met up with her family at some point. Combine this with Java's story and frankly I don't trust him as much as I used to, even if he has done us no particular harm thus far. Not enough to completely betray him though.

My vote goes to trying to get Jabaro to stop, attempt diplomacy, but in any case let Java know that there's sneaking going on. If nothing else, I feel like Java can't keep Tanya tied up and defend herself from Jabaro, and we still have our presumed "out" via the poison darts should things go completely south.

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

Yeah, this could be the best course of action.

Cards to our chest, hopefully Java will let go and we can use both the darts and sword. That will put both of them in a position where they will have to calm down and talk. So fingers crossed.

F1reDem0n

Posted by F1reDem0n 8 years ago Report

I also find it interesting that when Kuva (I think this is the right characters name) had Tanya in her stomach, Jabaro was no where to be seen. Like he never existed within the story. I wasn't sure if anyone else had thought it, but when this happened I found myself thinking "Where is Jabaro? Why isn't he helping these two defuse this peacefully?"

I don't know if this was a detail left out, but I got the feeling that Jabaro had no interest if Tanya lived or died. Same can be said for Kuva is Tanya hadn't been swallowed and the two of them had swapped positions.

Otherwise why was he just missing during a important series of events? I know he ran ahead, but if he Kuva and Tanya where as important as he made them out to be, then he would have headed back sooner to check on them.

I think that Jabaro has also being lying to us, or like said before misleading us. I doubt he's as caring as he lets on.

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

Actually, I had been thinking that maybe Jabaro intentionally let the rivalry between Tanya and Kuva worsen.

It was even discussed in the Stream this comic page was drawn in. He could've simply watch from afar to see how things would go.

And I refuse to believe anyone would be that stupid to not know what Tanya was actually covered in when Kuva puked her out (smelled both puke and decaying swamp water before and they're definitely not the same thing). And Kuva acted like if she did (she is consider a prankster, a childish one with a big ego) then Jabaro would not have cared and brought any story she told him.

Hell, he would've caught up with Kuva and knew that she would do something stupid if he sent her back for Tanya.

DissociatedChaos

Posted by DissociatedChaos 8 years ago Report

I'm personally going to have to side with the Cheetahs. This clearly has nothing at all to do with preferring the more cuddly cheetah-girl as a pred to the snake. Clearly.

Besides, Jabaro did seem to be fairly well known to Kuva, and I think our friendly rival of a cat would take it poorly if we sided with the snake who beat her up over her fellow Cheetah. If Jabaro turns out to be a complete dick, Kuva might not even be adverse to practicing a bit of cannibalism.

Assimilation

Posted by Assimilation 8 years ago Report

1) This is an awesome complication in the plot.

2) Do not forget that Kuva thought it could be okay to eat you like nothing. She is not a friend. Therefore, do what needs to be done in order to neutralize her.

2a) Therefore, maybe let Jabaro and Java fight it out. See who survives. If Jabaro dies, you might strike a deal to eat Kuva. If Java dies, you can kill a weakened Jabaro and then eat him and Kuva.

3) Seriously, guys, fuck Kuva.

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

Aye... but I don't feel like being a bigger douche bag to the kids she leaves behind. It would be worse than Kuva ever did to us since those kids would not once, but likely might twice lose a sibling within a week, and one more who really does not have any real involvement with Jabaro's ploy just seems incredibly petty and cruel... and we have all seen how rash and petty worked out for Kuva. XD

Don't have a problem kicking her butt and lecturing on what a dumbass she has been and a bad predator afterwards, just feel that killing her is too far for me despite my dislike of her.

And besides, Jabaro and/or Java could be potentially larger douchebags still.

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

That said, only saving her butt because of the kids... after a few kicks to it but nothing too permanent. XD

mayeram

Posted by mayeram 8 years ago Report

I understand how you feel, but at the moment Tanya needs to worry about herself and get to the bottom of this situation. If the children are left without Kuva at the end of this, Tanya could always adopt them and take them with her to Daniel's people. That or take them as pigs to be fattened up for later when food is scarce...

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

And now Tanya can potentially be worse than Jabaro, Java, and Kuva combined.

Assimilation

Posted by Assimilation 8 years ago Report

Worse...

...and therefore, better. >:D

mayeram

Posted by mayeram 8 years ago Report

It would certainly be evil, but I have thus far not seen anything which would indicate Tanya's alignment. Heck there were people in the beginning that wanted to eat Daniel. I am just looking at this from a logical perspective, and it is always better to have more options that you can choose from than less because of previous decisions which pigeonhole you into a bad situation. If Tanya is a good person, the choice to adopt them would be obvious.

Honestly if eating sentient creatures is a given even if you have other choices, how would keeping sentient creatures as livestock and giving them a good life until it was time to kill them be worse especially given the fact that the other option without Kuva would be a sooner more miserable death through starving or being hunted and eaten by something else? Both seem extremely evil to me.

It may be an illusion. The red, scented fog and the way this Jabaro isn't bothering to acknowledge Tanya, not even just simple eye contact.

Or it's possible that Jabaro is real, but is the one being hypnotized and is staring into space very intensely.

Let Java know he's behind her Warn Java about Jabaro

JiklokEmisaryOfSteel

Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report

Having Tanya outright betray the felines is not advisable. The mist has clearly done something to her senses. Furthermore who is to say Java isn't a voodoo priestess whom cast a curse on us already?

Simply because Jabaro does not acknowledge Tanya does not mean he doesn't care. He is most likely trying to be extremely focused in order to try and score one clean hit to the neck. This is hard to do with Kuva right there on Java's shoulder.

Java commended Tanya for eating her "minion" earlier. Who is to say this was not a charm of some sorts? Yes Java is interested in Tanya for being carnivorous. She likely had now expected a bunny to eat the minion but instead a predator, say another cheetah. Either way this may not be important.

Again the possibility of the mist poisoning ones mind is still there. Are we trully lead to believe the "odd smelling but probably harmless" red mist has done nothing? I say nay, absolutely nay, Tanya breathed plenty of it in by now. This entire event could be a charade.

The serpent claims she simply slithered passed the village and everything was already gone. Impossible, she is a "well known" predator. This doesn't nessesarilly mean an entire village would dissapear overnight because of it. Even so if this was true why wouldn't Java make any attempt at all to simply avoid the village? What if all the villagers decided to attack her all at once. Priestess, random predator, innocent traveler or otherwise. The villagers would have done SOMETHING about her. This means it would be in Java's best interest to not simply go through.

These are all my thoughts on the matter. That is all.

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

Fid said on a stream that Java is a shaman I believe, not a vodou priestess. There's lot of differences between the two.

And then there's a convenient fact that when Jabaro talked about Java there is not a mention of a red mist or fog http://www.furaffinity.net/full/21192674/ and he said he personally saw her ate a group and drag off the others.

If Jabaro saw that happen, then clearly had to known about the fog and would have warn us and/or Kuva about it.

That said, it is possibly a good idea to keep both at arms' length after the choice is made, because either one could be as equally a backstabbing son of a bitch after killing the other one.

JiklokEmisaryOfSteel

Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report

Twas only an example when I said priestess. I could not think of a general term for jungle mystic.

As for everything else I was simply annoyed that in one statement, Java made a good portion of everyone side with her. That Tanya would immediately go back on and betray her temperary ally so quickly. It doesn't sit well with me is all. Although nothing has yet happened, it still looks rather landslided as to what will happen for now.

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

I think it is the fact that Java really could've done the Kuva on us in the last comic and then go off to deal with Jabaro with relative ease if us and Kuva are anything to go by, but yet for some reason she didn't do it and seems to be quite pointlessly wasting her time when any person who played a Bond villain would simply say, "shoot em" to her.

That is something hard to ignore. And that gas could've been along the lines of makeshift smokescreen of Java's own invention.

And a lot of things don't click for me, possibly with both of them. There are plenty of holes in either's story, like: where are the villagers now if they are gone recently? Or how was the child lost to settlers despite its watchers being skilled? And why is Java wasting her time talking to us?

So we could have one or both characters who may be giving a half story and sound as likely as the other to finish Tanya off as soon as her usefulness is up.

JiklokEmisaryOfSteel

Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report

If I had to choose between the two I would stay with the cheetahs. They decided to keep the explorer around for some time. Why not eliminate him and use the remains to feed the cubs?

It is curious that Java is speaking to Tanya at all. She has stated that she was curious of the rabbit. That may be the only thing holding her back.

There still is plenty of things we could each point out but the fact remains that Tanya has to make a choice.

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

Well I would like an option for maybe a stalemate where ye can hear from both of them to get more information to act upon.

And Daniel is a trader of sorts, so that is one option for why they hadn't cooked him. Though the Stream did have people asking if he is involved with Jabaro, which I doubt but that is also a possibility too.

JiklokEmisaryOfSteel

Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report

As it sits if Tanya warns the serpent lass and he wins than he has no reason to trust Tanya anymore. Saying nothing at all and he wins than she is on his good side. If she sides with Java than maybe she is let go.

Niether are trustworthy but Jabaro has not openly attacked Tanya.

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

True, but him there is that thing of him holding back several times that seems to fit for an assassin quite a bit with using either Tanya and/or Kuva as distractions. But that admittedly is speculation.

There is something however that has been on my mind and it is the villagers. You see, before Java came into the picture, I naturally assumed they're slavers. After all, what else would you call folks who abducted a cheetah cub?

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

Actually, correct, it wasn't a village: https://aryion.com/g4/view/359308 it was a camp. So it is still possible that whoever uses it are slavers.

JiklokEmisaryOfSteel

Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report

I doubt it is just a camp, there are wooden structures put up with furniture inside. Either way it isn't all that important.

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

True.

Does make me wonder though why someone would set up shop near or rather within a forest with a swamp around it sort of, or near Java for that matter.

JiklokEmisaryOfSteel

Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report

Could be some form of bandits attempting a ransom. They may not even have anything to do with the children dissapearing. Java's statement about the villagers being gone may very well be true.

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

Maybe, it has been something that bugged me when I re-looked at the pages. Like the clothes left at the camp were of all types, including both settler and native type.

And another thing I noticed where the tracks in this page https://aryion.com/g4/view/360140 there both settler and native tracks followed by Java's.

JiklokEmisaryOfSteel

Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report

The natives most likely have the permanent buildings and settlers have the tents. As for possibly living near Java, perhaps the natives had an understanding with her before the settlers arrived?

Russ

Posted by Russ 8 years ago Report

It does seem likely since anyone who knows such rumours as she would call them would pack shop and leave (to me, losing one or two people to a hungry snake each week or something does not seem like a good trade off for such an area unless there is something worth having), like I have considered that maybe Java use to trade with them or something.

In fact, the belt and pouch with the gold and gems seem to be in a strange place in swamp water. https://aryion.com/g4/view/358392

JiklokEmisaryOfSteel

Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report

There's no doubt about that, would be entertaining no doubt but it would not get us far in figuring out what is happening here.

Aw rad, we're friends with an assassin!

We should try to keep Java distracted.

Java's story seems a little shaky. I'm not convinced that a whole village ran away leaving strewn clothing behind purely due to her reputation. Dropped tools, buckets, and food would suggest an abandoned village. Scattered clothes suggests an attack.

On the other hand Jabaro has almost certainly lied to us. The first time we met him he wanted weapons, then told us he needed them in order to search for a missing child. Looking back there are numerous points where he does things that suggest he has been lying to us. Meeting Java doesn’t seem like a chance encounter any more. He led us to the village and insisted on staying there until we found Java’s tracks. It definitely looks like he has deliberately roped us into this situation as a meat shield against a powerful enemy.

Java might be lying as well, particularly about the fate of the villagers, but at least seems to have used the minimum force required against us. I definitely vote we warn her of the attempted backstabbing and side with her, at least for now.

Both Kuva and Jabaro have a broblem with Tanya eating meat. Java on the other hand is merely intrigued, even after her minion getting eaten. She would probably make a better ally, even if she wasn't telling the whole truth. Jabaro certainly doesn't seem to be telling the whole truth.

I suggest/vote for warning Java.
