Without spoiling too much of the story, which you should TOTALLY read, she's his fight coach. She told him not to take this fight because it was underground and the lady fighters always digest who they beat, but he takes the fight anyway because her gym would get shut down without the money.

For some, I recorded it myself, for some others, I used the free sources.
Though mostly I shifted their speed and pitches, and merged bunch of them to make them sound more... unique in a way.
So that they don't sound like *the free source sound effects* xP

Honestly, that's an impressive justification. I know many people aren't a friend of depressing stories, but the emotional investment in that regard is pretty understandable. The domination and humiliation of this scene are amplified so much by the performance she's giving after having it in the bag. He's beaten by this amazingly hot woman... for entertainment. The apology only makes it more humiliating because this sexy competitor beat him without even feeling the fighting spirit and genuinely feels sorry for him, the bravado is actually just kayfabe. But while it's work and an act to her, it's completely real to her victim.

She's definitely acting for the show. In the story, she talks differnetly when whispering, and which is likely her true self. Not when she's exaggeratingly screaming to the crowds.
There's reason why Kim was strongly against Jace from going to the Playing for Keeps match.
Because indeed, it's not about winning or losing. But it's about how long the prey stays on the ring.
It's a outlaw match, and preys just cannot win preds outside of specific regulations. They are almost double the size, and likely 8 times the weight.
Winning the match as a prey apparently pays you enough to rebuild a falling family business, something like Kim's gym.
And I don't think it's any easier than making such money with other methods.
But yeah.
The digestion is real.

In the story the predators are both very apologetic about eating people, but they sure manage to do it a lot. They feel guilty enough to express regret, not enough to actually stop when the chance strikes. It leads me to think they've got all the social wiring to fit into society despite what they do. They're predators in plain sight no matter what they do but they don't even know or accept it about themselves.
I did end up buying the boxing stories and I really enjoyed it. I'm yet to be disappointed with anything from Snakethroat. I enjoyed the ending but everything beyond the 'second finale' fell flat for me. I understand the metaphor being invoked for Athena continuing the cycle Goldenstreak started but it felt forced. The metaphor took precedent over the story and I thought it really undermined Athena's character that had been built up for 80% of the story.

I tried to say it without mentioning spoilers but I'll have to say them. Ye be warned other readers, full spoilers to follow.
I meant Kim eating Athena and the turducken vore. Athena is following the same path Kim had taken where she's the remorseful killer of a great many in-over-their-head fighters of which Jace is one. Kim being at the end of the first of those paths, and the end of a multitude of the latter paths, is the completion of this cycle. So, rather than having the cycle play out again with Athena eventually coming to be in Kim's position somewhere down the line, the cycle is instead represented metaphorically with the admittedly creative turducken vore.
Jace is eaten by Athena as Kim ate her competitors in the past. Athena is eaten by Kim as a narrative indicator that Athena would kind of become Kim. The whole history of Kim is represented in the ring, in her stomach, only in the present, and using allegory. And with digestion Kim's character now advances in a way that isn't part of an established cycle finalizing the tragedy.
The turducken situation is a brilliant bit of writing considering the genre of generally smutty vore. It's all quite good only Athena is relegated to being a prop for the advancement of Kim's character. We're following Jace and Athena's goals and personalities for the whole story and then the turducken re-frames all of that as Kim's past, but I wasn't attached to Kim's past. I was attached to the real and present competition between two fighters trying to achieve their dreams in a world where only one of them could win.
Also Athena's hot, and attractive, and she won fair and square, and she's really considerate to the contestants she kills, and so good things should happen to her, and she should get what she wants, and be happy, and have a care free life! Mnnneeeh!
