So I was looking back at Kickstarter and trying to find my pledge in order to see if backers still got this comic through their backing. Yet I had issues finding my way back to the kickstarter. Only to find out now, several months later that there may have been an issue with my card... I am mighty miffed of right now. At least you decided to make this publicly available but I am still rather angery my pledge was eaten by the aether.

Ayla's animations for the game fall into two main categories; player controls & enemy interactions. I want both to feel energetic and clean but with player controls it's also important to consider playability. Ayla need to be able to snap into a jump from any point in her idle, or quickly break into a run, etc. An easy way to do that is to forego animating transitions between different states, which risks sacrificing smoothness and could make some changes feel jarring or abrupt. Ayla ended up on Skull Island for the day, and didn't fare so well! I've gotten started with the illustrations for the Cretaceous Seas kickstarter rewards, and it wasn't intentional to start with two scenes on Skull island but that's how it worked out. The final illustrations are going to be collected up into an artbook after the game is released.
A bonus of doing these illustrations is getting even more ideas for the game. I absolutely want carnictis worms worked into the game! :)...

Chrome OS, actually. It does have a Linux VM running on it, though. So, arguably, yes. Linux. XD One might argue that the Windows version could just be run under WINE, but WINE can be really sketchy sometimes, especially when software uses frameworks like .NET or DirectX.

My understand is that porting over to consoles can be challenging. I'll probably need some help making that happen, and certainly more time. I don't plan to put it in a mobile format because I think the screen would just be too damn small. All of the artwork and animations are also going to be available to patrons and whatnot.

I haven't played that game so I'm not entirely sure it'll be the same but it's probably a similar concept. Once Ayla encounters an erotic scene or a vore ending, the animation for it will be unlocked in the gallery at the start scene. So you will kind of be able to collect them.

Pond life was an enjoyable comic and in this one is the Sorceress is instantly recognizable.
However, my personal favorite style was Oola's last dance, especially when regarding the curves and colors and the black lines which outline the details. But I can understand if you prefer a more cartoony style if you find that realistic style time is consuming (as I do).

You're right in suspecting it would essentially require starting from scratch. I have no immediate plans to go back into 3d work anyhow, so although it isn't impossible it's not something I see myself doing.
In the Cretaceous Seas game, the snake vore attack animation I'm currently working on is largely based on the positions and movements from Coils and I do plan to have a nude player option. It's all going to be on screen in game, and only from one angle, but something I am considering is doing a cinematic version of each ending which would be more like my old 3d stuff but all hand drawn.

I love process stuff like that, especially for classic movies and animations. In the artwork bundle, at the $100 reward tier, there is going to be a collection of artwork which will span the concept pieces all the way through to the custom illustrations and game screen shots. And a narrative on the whole process nobody is going to read. :-P

Ayla finds out the hard way in this concept sketch that it's better to stay in the shallows. A creature like this would be a nightmare to animate but if there's enough interest, I'll make it happen. The main idle animation is one of the key parts of Ayla's motions I'm going to need. Today I launched down that path and got it started. Nice strong pose, decently interesting overall, boobs, all the right parts to begin... and then a splash of motion!
It's far from done, but I wanted to get something up tonight to at least showcase some progress. Details like the hands, hair, and slight sway in the breasts haven't been animated yet. I kind of work from the spine out.

The angler plant looks pretty happy with its catch, don't you think? No animation has been done for this creature design yet but this is a start. In game, it is one of the ambush predators that's quite fatal if you're unlucky enough to get grabbed.

The animation is still very much a work in progress, but that's kind of to be expected after only a few days working on it. Although not finished it's still a big step forward in creating content for the Cretaceous Seas game!

I'm still working to clean up the frames for the snake attack animation. If animation is one fault it's that it is slow.
The first few seconds of the snake is inked, but clean-up on Ayla is mostly slated for tomorrow. This animation is going to be the finished work actually going into the game, not a draft or rough.

So right upfront, I have to emphasize this is a SUPER rough draft of the first snake vore scene. At this stage it's primarily just a motion sketch to help me get the timing and staging right. I'll keep tweaking this animation and adding more of the extremes (key and secondary poses) until I feel like the motion is where I want it. Then I'll start doing the real drawings over it. Once those are decently clean and nice I'll ink over the whole thing to make it crisp and nice.

To start, she'll be in the loincloth (with nothing under it). I do want to have an option for the game to have option costume changes, including a nude version, but I need to have the primary bit done first. For the comic which is currently in production she'll be nude.

Quick little in-between progress step here on Ayla's turn animation, but not quite to step 3 entirely. Cleaning up the lines and getting everything feeling smooth takes a good deal of time. To make sure those efforts were going stay on target I decided to start by cleaning up the initial key frames first. Well nice! My only cellist friend isn't in my area anymore, and I don't have my own, so that'd be a challenge. Thought about doing it with a haunting violin part so I could record it at home but it wouldn't be the same. Your choice of instruments sounds like it has the potential to be very foreboding & tension, yet also subtle, delicate and atmospherical! It'll be interesting to hear the score once it's done!

It's very appreciated! :) Not yet for the score. I am a musician myself, and have done some scoring before,so in a pinch I could write it myself. I'd rather have someone else handle it, just for time. I'm picturing a pretty spare soundtrack with a focus on a lone cello and some tympanis, so it's fairly simple. Planning to cross that bridge once the main body of the game is done.

Step 2: I used the initial blocking from step 1 to better define the key poses. Once some basic forms were defined I began adding the in-between frames, bring us up to a total of 64 drawings to complete the turn. That is more frames than originally planned but I found the turning speed needed to be reduced.
Everything at this stage is still very rough and loose, especially the finer details. In the next step I'll be cleaning up the line work to further sculpt the details and...

Is the vintage look because of the girl's design or the jittery line work while it's in draft form? I'm not aiming for the vintage look on purpose (guess it just crept into my style) so I'm not sure it'll be there in the end. Kind of hoping so now, since I'll absolutely embrace that direction!

To get a better sense of how I'm going to be animating Ayla for my upcoming hand-drawn video game I decided to animate her character turn around. It's sort of like having a model sheet brought to life, and good practice at the same time. Seeing the character fleshed out in a 360 degree turn gives me a better sense of her mass and forms. It's also just a cool way to help visual her as I start creating more of the necessary sprites and promo art.

Interesting journey you're embarking on with this game. I've always thought your work was among the best in the vore community when it came to 2-D and 3-D artwork.
I've seen a large number of vore games over the years and found them to be pretty unfulfilling in how they tackle the subject matter with very little exception. Your hand drawn approach is very ambitious and I really look forward to how it turns out.

There's something magical about a babe running topless. Bouncy and magical. But will she be fast enough?
We don't know the exact top speed an adult t-rex could run but Ayla could almost certainly sprint fast enough to get away on a straight away. So it looks like she might be getting away... unless of course she does something ill-advised like trying to hide instead of just running for it. Oh Ayla, that would be a terrible idea. ;)

Excellent line-art animation. Enough lines to convey an excellent scene without extraneous detail.
Enough realistic motion in things we care about that we have don't notice things that don't seem 100% (like thigh jiggles or wheel deformation) -- unless we deliberately go looking for them.
As part of a movie or a video game, I'd call this professional-grade.

More tests coming soon, for sure! Ayla will have some cut scenes in the game to flesh out the story a bit. Part of why I'm doing these tests is to get ready for doing those. Game sprites, by comparison, aren't nearly as challenging.

This one looks great. The background looks very good for a comic style game, I especially like they way the background scene blurs into each other and becomes more diffuse while keeping the foreground and main characters in focus.
Although I am unsure if I would be able to get away from the snake if it appears in the game... especially with such a babe^^

I've been experimenting with various different looks for Ayla, balancing the need for a design that won't be too laborious to animate but still gives a distinctive and recognizable look. On screen during gameplay she'll only be about 2 inches tall, so her design and her outfit need to come across clearly at that small size. These are just some of the design iterations, shown here with both flat and cel shaded coloring.

Yes, the comics in this series are all based on enemies in the game. It might not be exactly the same, but it's the inspiration.
