She is usually basking in the sun at the free access palace courtyard.

Depends of wht do you mean.

Pray to=Pray to the prey for it to do something for her.

Pray for=Pray that something happens to the pray, wheter is a good or a bad thing.

People usually "pray to" a god or some equivalent.

If the prey is dead, she might "pray for" the prey to rest in peace.

BUT "pray to prey" won't cause confusion. So it's probably the better choice.
