Alrighty, guess my groove wasn't to be after all. Not because I've lost my motivation, but because I wrecked up my hand again. I got a bit too enthusiastic while pursuing an idea and now all must suffer for my hubris. My wrist is seriously bothering me, and I can't even work for a few minutes now without pain.

Yay.

I attempted to battle this obnoxious state of affairs by wrapping my hand in an ace bandage, but it wasn't very effective. So now my hand is in a wrist brace, and I can hardly move it at all. This state has rendered drawing much more difficult; worse is that the brace is not preventing me from feeling pain while using my hand.

So... I dunno. Have an old work in porogress animation I never uploaded for some reason by way of apology.

yikes man, serious ouch about the hand :( are you seeing a doc about it or something? Sounds serious...

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

I cannot afford medical care. Like, at all. I'm relying on a mix of my own investigations into it, and advice from a relative of mine who's in the medical field (she also lent me the wrist brace.)

Jacquelope

Posted by Jacquelope 13 years ago Report

Can you qualify for your state's medicaid program?

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Not as far as I'm aware. And the free clinics in the area (that I know of) are only open for children.

Kind of a bummer, eh?

Jacquelope

Posted by Jacquelope 13 years ago Report

Extreme bummer. But if you're not sure that you qualify or not, I'd take a serious look into it. By the way, nice animation. :D

Firstfate

Posted by Firstfate 13 years ago Report

Interesting animation, and to bad about your hand :(, hope it gets better. Say, is the animations just about a bad set of circumstances or is that a pred getting an easy meal XD

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Just a bad set of circumstances. Look at that face on the girl doing the swallowing. She's as surprised as anyone at first... not that that means she's going to let the girl she unexpectedly swallowed out.

Firstfate

Posted by Firstfate 13 years ago Report

Who would let such luscious meal escape? It was her fault for going down the wrong slide anyways XP

Teruyo

Posted by Teruyo 13 years ago Report

Immobilization of the wrist may be your best bet at healing it. Arnica or chamomile oil may also help; both are thought to help heal, though there's no scientific proof to back that up.

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Yeah. Well, I'm planning on keeping it braced for a while longer.

Teruyo

Posted by Teruyo 13 years ago Report

I'm no medical professional, nor do I have all of the information I'd need to make a real diagnosis of your problems, but "carpal tunnel" keeps popping back into my head. Good news and bad news: it's (relatively) easy to treat, but you have to stop drawing for a while. Period. Try to use your wrist as little as possible for the next few weeks. Keep that brace on it, and absolutely no drawing unless you can figure out how to do it with your feet (or, I guess, your non-dominant hand). You're one of my favorite artists in this community, and I'd hate to see you hurt permanently. Better to have a month or so of no new art from you than no more art from you ever.

Aesir

Posted by Aesir 13 years ago Report

I loved that vore amusement park pic. xD This animation too.

But wow. Dude. Rest that shit. Rest til you CAN afford medical stuff. ):

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Well, I'll rest it til it seems recovered. Fraid I'm in a bit of a catch 22 on that, though. (need cash monies for medical care so I can draw again, need to draw to get the cash monies...)

Bright

Posted by Bright 13 years ago Report

That animation there got to be one of my favourite scenarios on how to get a meal.

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Mm. Well, glad something incomplete that I had just laying around on my computer met your needs.

Entity

Posted by Entity 13 years ago Report

Loving the animation but whats more important is your hand, probably best not to strain it. I find heat packs help to sooth strain,it may help you. :)

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

I've been warned off them by someone who has been burned (literally) by them. But it might be worth a try.

Entity

Posted by Entity 13 years ago Report

Just make sure they're well wrapped,if it's possible try and get a pack which has beads in instead. Much more soothing and less chance of burns.

I'm amazed no one's done it yet, so I guess I'll be the first:
"Cue Jaws theme music"

As for your wrist, I'm no doctor, but I highly suggest keeping it immobile for awhile. To me, it sounds like you may have stretched your ham strings, but it could be something much more serious, like developing carpal tunnel. Keep it still for two weeks at the most. If the problem persists, and if you haven't already, go see a doctor.

I wouldn't suggest any pain pills. The pain's there for a reason, if you ignore it you could very well end up with a serious problem on your hands (no pun intended). Unless you want to start learning how to draw with your offhand?

My unprofessional diagnosis may seem a bit paranoid, but the saying "better safe than sorry" exists for a reason. Take it easy, get better. The world, and the vorld, can wait.

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

I've been advised for a week or two longer, though that's under the assumption that it's carpal tunnel. I believe it's more than likely muscle fatigue or tendonitious though.

As for the pain pills, I've recieved advice to take advil (both from my relative and Irmhrys) due to it being an anti-inflammatory. Also, some studies indicate that pain actually impedes the healing process.

As for taking it easy, well, that's the idea. Frustrating as it may be. At one time it was easy for me to be restive, but I'm starting to get very annoyed from being unable to even scribble a bit.

BabLe7

Posted by BabLe7 13 years ago Report

i've had similar problems with my wrists. mainly just the right one though. same solution too. and same lingering pain. of course mine was mostly because of a week of highschool classes that were entirely devoted to taking notes all class. So you have my sympathies for what it's worth.

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Thanks. Stay well.

BabLe7

Posted by BabLe7 13 years ago Report

If you didn't get an alert, i sent you a pm with a temp. solution for the wrist pain.

Vorefreak

Posted by Vorefreak 13 years ago Report

Maybe Tylenol Arthritis would help, at least temporarily. Long term, though, immobilization is probably your best bet.

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Maybe.

It'll probably be a little while I'm afraid.

/sigh.

SerpentKing

Posted by SerpentKing 13 years ago Report

Love the animation! Too bad about the hand, though. Take care of it, buy a wrist brace. They don't cost too much, if hardly anything at all.

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Already have one on hand, though I guess one that actually own (instead of merely borrowing for a while couldn't hurt.)

Svartvinge

Posted by Svartvinge 13 years ago Report

now thats a exellent idea ( and good camping spot!)

though i really hope your hand gets better >w< it sucks that you have to have to go thru this

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Hehe. Well, the girl will probably keep it in mind for the future... this time was kind of accidental, heh.

As for my hand, well, yeah. Hopefully it'll not happen again.

Like I could be that lucky.

acle

Posted by acle 13 years ago Report

I'm sorry about the wrist, I know how it feels, I broke my wrist 6 weeks ago, luckily I'm in England so we get the NHS, I understand how it must be hard, if you could get maybe access just a check up on the wrist you could get some help from a doc?

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Yeah. The US doesn't have a health care system to write home about, that's for sure.

Imrhys

Posted by Imrhys 13 years ago Report

I love this WIP. Take your time with it, for that wrist's sake, and I think everyone here will be patient for your typical level of workmenship ^^

Nice surprise and "suddenly fatal" vore situation you have set up here.

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Honestly, haven't worked on this for a while. I got it to this point... like maybe a year ago? Than I lost my interest in it and never went at it again. But I'm glad you like the situation, hehe. Though I tend to avoid thinking about that part of things and/or handwave it away.

You should get a tablet if you don't have one - it may help your wrist out.

I have one; probably would never gotten into digital illustration if I hadn't.

For what it's worth, I love the animation. Not sure what to say other than I hope you get well soon. :(

Kiyoa

Thank you, on both counts.

Sharue

Posted by Sharue 13 years ago Report

Hey any chance we could chat in notes or such. I wanted to find out how many frames a sec you used for your movments so on. Ive been working on some animations my self.

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

I could do so here if you didn't mind.

Sharue

Posted by Sharue 13 years ago Report

sure how many frams were you doing per second? also did you use flash to animate with layers?

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

With roughs like this, I've found a serviceable speed is ten frames/second. A little choppy, but serviceable.

As for flash, well, I don't have flash, so I did this one entirely in GiMP. I did make extensive use of layers though. Saved it as gif animation with 100ms frame delay and, well, that's what we've got here.

Sharue

Posted by Sharue 13 years ago Report

Gotcha. Though how do you do your overlays?

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Mostly just turning on and off layers selectively. It's been a while since I've tried animating, but I mostly just brute-forced it whenever I went about it.

Sharue

Posted by Sharue 13 years ago Report

gotcha. Ive been using Photoshop and using a base layer as a skeleton to work around. though I don't have it at 10 frames a sec more like 6 I think right now.

CGR-7

Posted by CGR-7 13 years ago Report

Hey Kiyoa, such a cute little animation you’ve got here.
So sorry to here about your wrist, that is such a bummer.
I think everyone here has pretty much covered anything I could possibly say so... just take it easy and hope it gets better. Best wishes! *Gives big hug*

And yeah Kiyoa, I understand. It seems like our health care reform was passed so quickly before it was thought through.

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Honestly, I'd say it's less the Health Care bill than it is our "leaderships" tendency towards pointless infighting, pork barreling, and the Democrats inability to form a united political front against the Republicans rock headed stubbornness. But this probably is neither the time nor place.

Elle

Posted by Elle 13 years ago Report

Urgh, I wish things weren't hitting you so hard. I keep wanting to get working on that game we were discussing again, but with your hand out of commission... Well, just make sure you take the time to wait for it to heal. =/ There's no point in getting back into it early when it'll just injure you more.

Also, nice animation. I'd reaaally love to see this finished when you're feeling better. =3 Or even like this, it's pretty awesome.

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

Mm. Yeah, kinda hard to resist the urge to keep going with so much pressure on me though.

Elle

Oh.. WOW ♥w♥ This might be one of my most favourite vore animations yet. Absolutely epic work! :D

Sorry to hear about your hand though D: Damn I can imagine just how much it sucks not being able to use your hand...! Wishing you a speedy recovery, now that you at least have a brace on.

JackJackal

Hope your hand gets better soon!

Jaxed

Posted by Jaxed 13 years ago Report

I remember seeing you post this on /d/ some time ago, and was wondering when it would find its way here. Then again, I also remember you said you wanted to do some work on it before posting here, and with your hand in the shape it's in, kind of blows that plan out of the water, doesn't it? Sorry to hear about that.

Also, I'm sorry I can't offer you much in the way of medical advice other than what has already been said. Breaks are good for you. Time heals all ills and whatnot.

lovely animation.

that sucks about your wrist. rest it for as long as you need. its better that you get healthy, rather than hurting yourself again doing commissions and such.
also hop on AIM some time XD

ButtPlug

This is seriously the greatest thing I've seen in a while! Rest up bro, you deserve it!

PrinnyDood

Posted by PrinnyDood 13 years ago Report

That's a lovely animation; really fluid and expressive, especially for being a work in progress.

As for the wrist pain: I really know how you feel. Messed up both my hands, and then didn't respect the injury properly, ignoring the pain etc. Now it's two years later, and I'm only just now getting close to fully recovered. -_-

Yeah, encouraging, I know. But hopefully you can learn from my mistakes and respect that shit. I'm no doctor, and I have no idea if your injury is the same deal as mine was, but take it from me; joint-type injuries are not to be taken lightly.

Here's hoping it's just muscular.

TastyToni

Hows that hand now? Notice its been a couple of weeks, but if it still really needs attention, maybe we could start a "save Kiyoa's hand" fund. Probably enough fan's of you art to chip in?

Kiyoa

Posted by Kiyoa 13 years ago Report

The hand is doing much better, yes?

A week ago I wouldn't have said so, though. It still hurt often and the pain had not really reduced in any particular way, despite following the advice I'd received on the subject; I was beginning to wonder if it would ever really heal. And then, over the weekend the pain just kinda went away.

I'm giving it a few more days to make sure it's recovered. I'll probably work on some projects for a Cafe Press shop first though, just to set up something I don't constantly have to work at for income.

TastyToni

Sounds like a shoulder pain I got a few months back. Bothered me for a couple of days then just went away. I think I just slept on it funny. :-)

PS I forgot to say I love this animation and hope you find time to finish it one day... ;-)
