How to Play: Read the comic and then choose in the strawpoll link below what Tanya should do next.
Make sure to pay attention to Tanya's Stats. Charm determines how easily Tanya can sway others and cause them to do her bidding through seduction or other means. Stomach shows how hungry she is. If her meter gets too low, the quest may be railroaded, or Tanya doing something opposite of what the majority of people voted for. Vigor is vital for Tanya to do certain tasks that may require more effort than normal. Vigor can be seen as a combination of energy and mood.
There are also Current Sounds to keep in mind. Tanya is a rabbit with large ears! This means she uses her hearing almost constantly to remain aware of her surroundings. Current sounds can give a hint as to whether you should be careful in a specific situation or can do activities freely.
I'm looking for a lot of participation with this quest, so please chip in! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Such a lust for revenge!
WHOOOOOOO?!
Posted by PuritySpring 8 years ago Report
I fucking knew that the net would do nothing, but so many people chose to ignore physics and think that throwing a net would stop a lunging cheetah
Posted by Duckhunter 8 years ago Report
To be fair, most people probably assumed throwing the net also included trying to dodge the pouncing cheetah first.

Well dodge was one of the other options.

..Really, Fidchell? The rabbit predator you've described as being able to take down an ENTIRE TRIBE of predators by herself was beaten by the very first enemy?
Your description really does not match expectation and it's going to really confuse and annoy your audience.
Posted by FidchellVore 8 years ago Report
Where have I described that? If you're talking about The Short Goodbye comic, that was Enuk's thoughts and not fact.
Also, you can't blame me when people chose the wrong thing to do. You want every option to be 100% success?
Posted by Netjak 8 years ago Report
I atleast applaud you for sticking to reality and not try to bend it to suit the majority vote!
Posted by Vulgun 8 years ago Report
He ignored the fact that the predator had teeth and the net should have got caught on the teeth. He ignored any other part of physics just for one part of it, lol.
Posted by MrDirkins 8 years ago Report
yeah, he also ignored the bit where bones get in the way, shoulders are impossible to eat, and if you do, theres internal hemorrhaging, skin tearing...
oh right.
Posted by Hoodoo 8 years ago Report
I don't mean to start a debate here. Just read the comments and you'll see my comment is not far from the truth...
"This was not how I expected it to go"
"Seriously?"
"That plot twist there"
I'm just saying it did not seem like a reasonable outcome and when outcomes do not match what people expect they lose interest. I imagine most were expecting the net to be heavy enough to be useful if Tanya to not stand in the way after throwing.
This outcome just seems sort of weird and out of character. But that's all I have to say so I'll stop now.
Posted by MrDirkins 8 years ago Report
It wasn't how i expected it to go. thats exactly why i am interested now.
Posted by FidchellVore 8 years ago Report
Just because people don't expect it to turn out a certain way doesn't mean it's unreasonable. Vore already has a fantasy element in it, and realities are not fully established in these worlds. There are going to be times when there is a set risk factor and you will have to make due with whatever choices are presented. Not every choice will have a predictable outcome. That is what will keep this game fresh.
Posted by Jondo 8 years ago Report
My 2 cents. People are upset because they think they were tricked. Your options have been fairly straightforward so far, and people thought they were picking the choice to capture Kuva not stand there and do nothing. It would have been one thing if the net had missed, but you had the net hit Kuva straight on in the face. Even if this net didn't have any weight to it, Kuva should have had to free herself of it instead of straight up ignoring it.
I'm all for unexpected outcomes, and if we make a dumb decision, we should pay for it. This outcome just seems out of left field.
Posted by FidchellVore 8 years ago Report
Then be more careful about what you all pick. :]
Posted by Jondo 8 years ago Report
I was one of the votes for Dodge because I figured the net would miss and something like this would happen. If you had had the net miss, no one could have complained, but the way you had things play out along with having Tanya be eaten without an option to react doesn't feel right. This feels more "Rocks fall; Everyone dies" than "you made a bad decision now deal with it."
Posted by FidchellVore 8 years ago Report
Why are you making such a big deal out of this? It's not necessarily over just yet, and even if you guys do wind up getting her killed, I'm not going to stop the quest.
Posted by Jondo 8 years ago Report
Guess I am over reacting a bit, my bad. I like this character, and I don't want to see her story end just yet.
Posted by maraudingmarauder 8 years ago Report
I actually like vorey scenarios where getting swallowed is perilous but not necessarily the game-over condition where there's still some chance to struggle, so! Will have to see how this goes!
Posted by apples323 8 years ago Report
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise Fidchell, you've been doing a great job in the story and it's other people's fault for playing WAY too nice through this whole thing. I've enjoyed every bit of this quest and look forward to seeing what you do next with it.

I really hope we get to kick Kuva's ass, because A) this is counterproductive to the mission, B) she's gonna piss off someone who was easily able to overpower her earlier and finally, how does she HONESTLY think her partner's gonna react to this.
Posted by MrDirkins 8 years ago Report
i think the problem people are having with this vote was that they assumed they were voting for different things.
1:Subjugation
2:Dodge
3:Violence
when it was actually
1:throw a net
2:get out of the way
3:scare her out of whatever revenge scheme this is

Uh oh! We can't bargain our way out - We lost charm! Q.Q We can just kick our way out? The sword is still in our inventory. And the teeth are in our pack. Gut the cheetah like a fish? ^^;

I'd go with the diplomatic choice except I'm not certain if Charm determines that one too. Vigor is currently the highest but not super high. Tricky.
Posted by FidchellVore 8 years ago Report
Begging would be more suited for Charm. Diplomatic just requires logic out of Tanya's part.

Did we lose those gazelle horns when she swallowed us, now would be a good time to use them to threaten her to spit us out.

I am confused. So pretty much the (from what I understand) main character is pretty much screwed at this point and will die. Even the current options seem unlikely to work. I mean the most possible one is the Diplomatic one, but honestly when guilt tripping a predator ever worked?
I've never seen it work before, and the only time it has is when the "eaten" character is also a predator and threatens the "eator" with some sort of viable reason that could kill the eator as a result of digesting the character in their stomach.
I doubt (which I could be wrong) that guilt tripping Kuva about a mission that she and the male Cheetah could have taken on themselves. I mean for all we know they lied to the male rabbit and just wanted to try and get a meal. Like it's been a whole giant act. And the other two, when have they ever worked?
I am less annoyed and more confused. What was the point of all this if we are going to continue the story with a new character? At that point it wouldn't be called "A Rabbit Astray" anymore and at that point you'd have to put more effort then what's needed into re-setting the stage for the story. I know that this is pretty much a "Choose your own Adventure" sort of comic, but we aren't even 30+ pages in and it's pretty much over.
I think if different voting options were given (ones that would actually get Tanya out of this alive then I wouldn't be so unsure, but right now what we are given to work with isn't really...well convincing. I've actually had a lot of fun following this whole thing and voted on every page I could before the next one was made. But having it end this quickly seems like a downer.
Like I said if more viable options were available to vote from I think I'd have more faith, but the three open have never worked in any Pred-Eats-Prey situation. I mean ya Tanya is a Pred, but not anymore at this point.
Honestly though I do have one question, could the characters animal type affect the outcome? Like Tanya is a rabbit so her kind legs are really strong, kicking might work. But would you even take that characteristic into consideration when making the next page? Or are those things not part of how you are doing this thing?
Posted by F1reDem0n 8 years ago Report
Well even if her legs strength would be a changing factor, I can't change my vote. So it won't matter I guess. Unless 300+ more people join this whole thing.

Posted by Camlio420 8 years ago Report
I really gotta agree with this one especially since I'm a fan of your work and have seen just how well ANY of those options presented work out for the prey in your work. (Spoiler) they don't...
Posted by apples323 8 years ago Report
Who throws a net at a pouncing cheetah?? I find it hard to believe 616 of you voted for that vs the dodge option. Let's stop playing nice and kick our way out of this with our Vigor.
Posted by DemonicProfessor 8 years ago Report
take into account that common sense would say that even if the net didn't throw her landing off it would have at least slowed her down. if I knew that she would just ignore the item that is designed to tangle things up I would have voted for the dodge option.
Posted by Aikahime 8 years ago Report
So we reach a possible death state after that? The dodge seemed pointless with her injury, and brandishing the sword could kill the cheetah. Seems more that you just wanted a prey scenario to occur
Posted by FidchellVore 8 years ago Report
A prey scenario? SOMEONE was going to get eaten here. How is the dodge pointless? How is a simple side jump affected by bruised ribs?
Posted by Aikahime 8 years ago Report
I don't mind a prey end for this. It just seems ham fisted in this case.

FidchellVore did say those gazelle horns can pierce things. I'm pretty sure she still has those in her pouch, if she doesn't agree to let her out, she could probably seriously wound Kuva internally.
Posted by DemonicProfessor 8 years ago Report
To be honest I feel honest like Fidchell fell into one of the big traps of DMing, Sudden Harsh Punishments. I feel like it would have been better to use the net option as a Disadvantage set-up rather than a strait up lose. For example Kuva could have still landed on Tanya but instead of the net doing nothing it should have delayed her. She could have struggled to get it off long enough for Tanya to get to her senses but because she would still be on top Tanya would have to work around her now limited movement and options since the pounce would have disarmed her.
Posted by hotcoldcoolwarm 8 years ago Report
Fidchell you seem honestly surprised about what is going on in comments here.
I think people are upset because the wording on this page is calling people out for being dumb and not understanding physics. I think the truth is that a lot of the people did not think a net would knock the cat out of the sky, but people thought many other things could happen. It could have tangled her limbs letting the main character catch her in her arms. It could have bound her face. It could have been a distraction for an escape. It could have ended poorly anyway causing the character to take some damage lading to a vote about how to continue the fight or flee. People thought anything could happen but clearly you thought only one possible thing could have. Making your fans feel dumb for not understanding your intentions is going to upset some people. And even after that, the character you created and that people become attached to, is possibly killed and loses all dignity because of this miscommunication.
As for me, I never thought the net would work entirely, but I thought there would be another page at least to fight. It seems over now. Where last page every choice seemed viable this page has three losing choices.
1)Apologize- character loses a ton of face and it might not result in escape. Just a sad pitiful way to die whining.
2) Defiant- which is described as kicking even though the character's legs are tied. Even though the character still has sharp items that seem like a better choice for this.
3) Diplomacy- This almost has another edge of begging to this. Normally diplomacy is from some sort of equal position. Trying to talk rationally and calmly while being melted by your enemy seems like another sad way to die.
So last page where every choice seemed good with one being optimum, one or two were rigged to be against the player. On this page all choices seem rotten. One might be good, but at least for me, they all feel trapped.
I hope the communication of what the choices are gets clearer here. Your character is supposed to be the seasoned warrior, the comment section is not. Maybe she could give some input on what she things would fit with her fighting style and abilities. In RPG's like DnD players get access to knowledge their character should have to inform some decisions. While the art is great, the writing stinks. People got emotionally invested your character and they tried making choices they hoped to help her. The tone in the writing comes off like you are taunting them for that.
I will be cautiously optimistic to see where this goes but I may have to start avoiding your work.
Posted by F1reDem0n 8 years ago Report
Honestly you wrote this better then I did hotcoldcoollwarm. This was what I was trying to explain.
The choices provided last time were well thought out, now it just seems like a cop-out.
I know that you put a lot of effort into these FidchellVore and I appreciate that. But from a viewers standpoint and also a person who's been following along since the beginning (before you went to the voting page in the link), this feels sort of like you got sick of the main character (the Rabbit) and you want to move on.
At least that's what it feels most to me.
Posted by FidchellVore 8 years ago Report
You're thinking too hard.
Posted by F1reDem0n 8 years ago Report
Honestly probably not.
Unless your story somehow put the power in the prey (which has never happened unless the prey cuts the stomach open or has some sort of potion/syrum that will make the predator throw them up, which we have neither at this point), then this is over.
All of the current options are either verbal (which when has that ever worked), or physical (and that neither works unless the prey is far larger then the predator, which Tanya isn't at that size to make a difference).
Unless you can pull something out of a magic hat FidchellVore, then we might as well move on.
Posted by hotcoldcoolwarm 8 years ago Report
This page comes off as calling your fans out for thinking too little and now you complain we are thinking too hard? I am trying to explain to you why people are upset because you do not seem to understand why. I was trying to help you, please don't be so flippant. I just think you need to keep clarity on what the choices mean, anytime you can add character thoughts it is helpful. Like the weapon choice, we could have taken a weapon of lesser quality that would have been easier to use. That was a great vote. We understood the pro and cons. This net choice was just as bad as the now famous "glass him" choice of fallout. You knew net was bad, the character knew net was bad, you made it seem like it would do something. I guess it did something, it made the kicking option you give now even worse.
Posted by FidchellVore 8 years ago Report
What? How is this page coming off that way? Like I said, you are thinking way too hard about this. I'm not trying to insult anybody.
Tanya didn't have time to think. The exact moment you guys made the vote, Kuva was already mid-pounce. Tanya doesn't have the ability to stop time. Just quit complaining and move on already.

Posted by mayeram 8 years ago Report
OOOH! I like this! Previously I had been told by other readers that the options that we chose wouldn't make that much of a difference that quickly and that you would be reluctant to allow us to make an incorrect decision which could result in the main character's death.
This episode dispels that belief quite nicely and should allow some of us to take this more seriously.
The only options that I see having a chance of being effective are Defiant - Try to kick at her walls and Diplomatic - Guilt her about how this is unproductive to the mission.
I would personally choose Defiant. The circumstances are certainly very bad and the net that is wrapped around her will probably hamper her movements, especially in such a tight space but Tanya does have the Gazelle Horns, which would make a great stabbing weapon if she can reach them. It would be pretty bad ass if Tanya tore out of Kuva's stomach using them and she would be entirely justified for doing it. If the option really does mean that Tanya can do nothing other than kick the walls it is much worse, but still worth trying since our vigor is relatively high compared to our charm. Finally, if Tanya does succeed in a diplomacy check with Kuva, she will remain prey in the minds of the cheetahs for the rest of her life which is a generally bad thing. If she fights her way out of this, everyone will know not to fuck with her.
We don't even know if the Diplomatic option has a chance of working. This entire story about missing children could have been to separate her from Daniel so that they could eat her. It could easily be the case that when Tanya tries to reason with Kuva that Kuva just laughs at her for still believing in their lies. That said Diplomacy is still much better than apologetic. Kuva doesn't view Tanya as a person, merely a meal. Meals don't get sympathy from predators.
