Darkness, thick and deep and impenetrable, soaked through the girl’s
vision the way the acids soaked into her skin.
Weakness, heavy and draining, tied her limbs down, sapped her will to
resist. Even if she’d been able to just climb out, she wasn’t
sure she’d be able to move her body enough to do it.

Prisha’s hand hovered over the phone’s keypad hesitantly. She
didn’t want to do this. It meant admitting defeat. It meant
accepting failure. She earnestly did not want to believe she had been
defeated. She could not come to terms with the fact that she had
failed.
